Red River Gorge has many amazing finds in it but, one of the most pristine arches in all of Kentucky is Hopewell Arch. Hopewell Arch is very hard to find. You need to veer off the path and trust your research skills. You need a boost to get up there. I do not suggest going if you are not an experienced hiker. Hopewell Arch has a waterfall behind the arch creating a donut shape.
Another arch in this area is Sandy Arch. Sandy Arch is not a good for bushwhacking. If we found the path before we climbed through the tangled tree branches, I think I'd like it a lot more. Sandy Arch is a very unusual arch. If you decide to check out one of these hikes USE CAUTION!!! BIG CLIFFS!! Not safe for little kids.
Copperas Falls is family friendly (mostly). Copperas Falls is very pretty and is fun to have lunch at. It crosses the creek many times. Though it is fun to cross the creek, you must make sure you are on the right path. It is usually easy to tell where the path is. The Hopewell and Sandy Arches come off Copperas Falls trail.
It was a fun way to celebrate my dad's birthday. I think we all agree that the best part was taking a nice hot shower afterwards. Enjoy the pictures!
What a great birthday! Thanks so much, Leah, for planning it! It was fun to take a walk in the woods, even if someone made a mistake and planted the woods on a mountain... Love you!
