What is a real winter wonderland? Well, a real winter wonderland has a lot of snow and ice. Here in Kentucky we had a ice storm. [There was no snow though.] Imagine it just rained, and then the rain became ice. If you can imagine that then you have a pretty good idea of what an ice storm looks like. There are icicles everywhere. The trees are frozen in solid ice. The grass is crunchy from ice. It is beautiful outside. But, unfortunately that also means there is a lot of damage. A lot of trees have been falling down on peoples roofs. Even a flagpole fell down! So we respectfully folded the American flag.
My mom and I went out to explore. We saw a bunch of really bad damage. I'm glad our house isn't that bad!

Thank you for the two mile adventure in the winter wonderland. I loved sharing this experience with you. I have never seen anything like this before. My favorite part was when we rescued the American flag from a neighbor's yard and respectfully put it on their porch bench. I, too, am grateful that we our house was safe and the power is still on. Life is about looking for blessings in our trials. This storm is a trial, but we experienced beautiful blessings together on our Winter Wonderland Walk. :)
ReplyDeleteLeah, thank you for capturing and sharing this experience. I am sure that a lot of people would like to see what an ice storm looks like, and a lot of people don't think about trees breaking and flags falling. Great job respecting the flag! I am proud of you and your mom for your adventurous spirits, and for sharing your experiences. Great writing, and great photos! Love you!
ReplyDeleteLeah,
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed reading about your icy adventures. I've seen multiple ice storms here in Kansas. I think the ice makes nature magically beautiful. Unfortunately it also can do much damage. Good job helping to clean up your neighborhood.
awe to be young again...... just kidding. I find watching is better than running a risk of injury. Glad to see the world of Davis
