Wacky Word Wednesday 10

Raise your hand if you know what day it is. If you guessed Wacky Word Wednesday you are correct! Today I picked the words ORNITHOLOGIST and OOLOGY. Both of these words have something to do with birds. If you're wondering why it's because I did a bird unit for school.

Ornithologist means a person who studies birds. Have you ever wanted to live in a jungle and study the awesome mysteries of the forest? Or maybe be an explorer? Imagine how many cool birds you could see and learn about.

Now, time to talk about oology. You might think I spelled it wrong, but that is the correct way to spell it. Oology is the study of bird eggs and nests. I can never remember how to say this word.

If you have any suggestions for next Wacky Word Wednesday please put them in the comments. I look forward to seeing your comments. Good-bye until next time!

  3. I think I could easily become an ornithologist in Kentucky! There are so many diverse birds here, we love to watch them at our bird feeder. My favorite is the male cardinal (I love the bright red color!) What is your favorite bird?

  4. Leah, I LOVE your words for today. Great choices. Did you make yourself a junior ornithologist badge? You have learned so much in your bird unit. I'm so proud of you!

  5. From Mom: Both of these words are new for me. I love to say them. They sound so cool and official. You did a great job with Auntie Christy studying birds. I love our new feeders and the bird house that you built. So fun!

  6. I was invited to an ORNITHOLOGIST/Oology convention over this last weekend. All attendees were invited to bring their favorite pic. Breakout sessions would be held after the lunch break. (Lunch would be provided at a slightly extra cost.) Our food choices included egg drop soup and chicken-all-a-golden-rod. It was delicious but I couldn't complete my portions. I was just too nervous about my presentation. My assigned session included 12 individuals. We discussed each picture as the leader went around the room. Finally, it was my turn. I lifted my favorite pic and began to tell the back story. To my surprise the discussion leader abruptly stood up and announced the our time was up and dismissed the group. As I pack my 'offering' to leave the last of the participants came over and asked if I had understood the assignment for the session. For which I answered 'I thought so' - I did bring my favorite pic, it was of my chinchilla Road-E. She giggled and said that the session was about birds and bird nests and bird eggs and the pictures requested were not necessarily our 'favorite pic' but more of a request for pics of our feathered friends..... Moral of the story... make sure you put the emphasis on the correct words.
